Towne Square Jewelers offers appraisal services on fine jewelry, pearls, watches, and estate pieces. It is recommended that you have your jewelry appraised every 3-5 years. Appraisals are done in-house by either Terry Davis, a Certified Member of the National Association of Certified Appraisers, or by John Fitzgerald, a Graduate Gemologist and Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain who uses state of the art equipment and universal software. Your appraisal will contain complete descriptions of each item with grading, metal content, gemstone identification, and a digital photo.
If you are not sure if you should have your jewelry appraised, feel free to bring it by the store and ask.
Why should I get an appraisal?
Appraisals are done for many reasons ranging from a need to determine the fair market value of an item, to estate planning or most common, a replacement value determined for insurance purposes.
Some of the types of appraisals we perform:
Insurance: This type of appraisal provides the retail replacement value of an item. It is the most common type of appraisal.
Estate: This type of appraisal provides the fair market value of an item. It is most commonly used to help facilitate a fair distribution of an estate to its heirs.
Liquidation: This type of appraisal provides the cash value, which is usually the lowest value assigned to a piece of jewelry.
Appraisals start at $125 and we offer discounts for multiple pieces.
Your appraisal from Towne Square Jewelers includes complete laboratory testing of your jewelry and an appraisal report for your records. The report contains such information as:
- the content and weight of precious metals;
- a detailed description of diamonds and gemstones (carat weight, cut, clarity, color, measurements, proportion and finish);
- an internal diagram showing any inclusions (natural marks) in diamonds;
- a color photograph;
- the appraised value of your jewelry.
